Humans made it to play with. What is it, an old croquet ball?

Without more info, it looks kind of large for a NA sport ball. I'm thinking a natural concretion.

It looks to me like one of those old, hard rubber ball that has been out in the weather as long as I have! :occasion14:

They would really fly off of a bat. Miles and miles. jm's ball might be one of the original ones hit solidly with a Louisville Slugger.

As I remember the original ones were black. Impossible to find.

Is this post off a bit ?
Doesn't the ruler say "inches" after the 5 ?
Aren't super balls small ?

There were tiny ones and some that would fill your fist, almost as big as a tennis ball. Different colors also. If you had the blue one you were super cool. Anyone recall seeing a yellow one?

Thank you Kray. I'm still lost what everyone else think they are seeing.

I'm seeing something more consistent with an old skittles ball or a carpet bowl... and I'm not yet convinced that it's made of wood. Without some more information, everything is just speculation. On another site where I'm an Administrator, it was suggested to be a croquet ball but, if it is as big as the ruler suggests, then its way too big for that.

A croquet ball runs bigger than the superball I recall as a youth. By roughly a third.

The size has varied over time, but a modern croquet ball is three and five-eighths of an inch in diameter.

We still don't know for sure how big this ball is since the OP hasn't told us and we're relying on a not-very-clear picture. It looks like it might be around five inches. That would work for a skittles ball, and also for a carpet bowl.

This is a pretty good size ball being rubber, wood or highly rusted iron at a little over 5 inches in diameter. Until the OP gives an idea of what the material is it’s just a shot in the dark.
