Found this today about 300 yards away from where i found a 2nd union Calvery heel plate (clover cutout) a few years ago.
I had found what i thought was a old trail leading off the main trail that had left a 3 inch or so impression in the ground about the width of a modern house sidewalk. so after i followed it back in woods about 20 feet i started getting rectangular nails(shown) which i understand are 1830 to 1870 generally.
Then i hit this badge or something it seems. looks like stars over bars with 3 attached rivets i guess youd say.

it reminded me of the look of the back of the heelplate that had 4 rivits..(3 were still intact ).

I cant help but think this must be some kind of civil war badge or something. it seems to be iron. Seems like Stars over bars.

does anyone have any idea what this could be.
it seems to be iron and i have only rinsed it off in the creek.

It looks like a decorative cast iron plate off of a wood stove or camp heater.
