Any idea what this is?

Dad found it in South Africa in the 80's. He thinks it's a Meteor, slightly magnetic. Has a heavy wait to it & looks like it's glassed up or melted. Perhaps on entry?

Is it worth sending to a specialist or is detined to be a cool looking paper weight?
