Looks like a holder for a spool of twine, you're missing the back half.

All the photos are of the same side. Can you post a couple of the other side?

20170102_183008.jpgThanks every one for your input . This was found deep in the woods at a old house site, they only had 3 wells no running water or electric, it is cast iron the back is curved , I think it might of had a tin back thanks dano

That hole in the center is there for a reason. To pull something through it. I'm going with the earlier guess of a spool holder.

an move it from place to place
