Any idea what this is?

A friend of mine bought this while in the UP of Michigan, she bought it from an antique dealer and he didn't know what it was either. The only markings are the design, I believe it is hand made. Looks like brass, about 8 inches long, the end closest to the "burning chamber??" opens, the chamber itself is very shallow inside and about 2" tall, it is attached to the back. It is not a pipe because the chamber does not go through to the base, it is attached to it. Sorry the picture isn't better, it looked good on my phone! Thank you in advance

If you haven't done so you may try posting it in the "what is it?" forum. Is the piece standing up at the end hinged and does it fold down over the round opening? May try posting some pics from different angles also.
