I found this in my friends yard. This was probably 200ft. from an old railroad line. The property dates back at least into the late 1800's. It is about 3" square, possibly brass. I tried moving it side to side but it didn't seem to budge. I may go back and dig it up completely but it must be a marker for something just not sure what. The letters appear to be B.L.H. &POO

Power company marker?
Brady

I did think maybe it was P.CO. There is some land (fairly small) adjacent to my friends property that is owned by the local power company (now NYSEG). I looked at some of the available Sanborn maps where one does list "Associated Gas and Electric Co. Storage" building. It's possible it was the property marker, it just seems that it is too far off the roadway to be a corner marker of the property. An older map shows it was the "Village Lighting Plant".

It may be one of those gps locator things. We had someone put one in our church yard. The way they were explained was that it takes 3 locators to help pin point a gps to a location. I was told these things are everywhere. They might have been pulling my leg. In that case what is it that they burried in the church yard?

The company is apparently some type of public utility company. Here is a refernce from a 1918 New York Court Records book:

In People ex rel. B. L. H. & P. Co. v. Stevens, 203 N. Y. 7, 96 N. E. 114, application was made for leave to issue bonds and preferred stock for the purpose of paying certain promissory notes outstanding and certain floating indebtedness. The commission granted the permission, but conditioned the same upon the corporation charging off upon the books $100,000 of stock liability appearing thereupon

Oddly, I can't find the actual company name in the record. :icon_scratch:
