Definitely looks like mining slag; the random "zigzag conglomerate" pattern formed as the molten slag trickled along the matrix it was dumped on and then cooled.

One other obscure possibility for something that looks lumpy and random like that is a fulgurite -- fused rock formed by a lightning strike. However, they tend to have a tube-like structure inside, and look somewhat glassy rather than metallic. (Plus you mentioned that your's is heavy -- fulgurites aren't light but you wouldn't notice that one was any heavier than a normal stone).

You said it was flat on the bottom though, so I would definitely go with slag.

Looks more like Lead slag.

Looks like lead slag. Years ago all sewer pipes were sealed with Okum and lead, this looks like they dumped the leftover molten lead on the ground. I have found similar pieces around old churches an houses.

Seen one like this once when a pan was left on the electric stove-on high, and after the water boiled out it melted and ended up like that. Wife kept it as a reminder for me to be more careful. Idiot I think was the term she used.
