Put kerosene or lamp oil in the jug and soak the stone. Pull it out and place under kindling for a fire starter and pull it out and plunge & cover back in the pot for the next time.

Charlie's right, except for the fact you don't put it back in the same container. These deals (I use one for my wood stove) have a thinck walled iron pot also, that you put it in to cool, then you put it back in this kero container to soak up some more for the next time.
