Dug this at a place where we also recovered Civil War Bullets, Flat Buttons.

It measures 3 1/4th inches long..
Round fat end is 1 inch in diameter.

Has a brass/copper wire through the end...

Not sure what the materaial is in the round fat end...

Thanks.....Dan

Maybe a lead soldered pipe end cap
the tail would be the slag run off from to much lead left over

It's been chemically treated. Here's another picture of the entire piece.

Thanks....Dan

I had the chance to examine this piece, and I can tell you with certainty that it isn't a cap gun.
At some point in history, it had another ear to it, and would probably have looked like that shown in the photo reconstruction below.
The tip looks like it was slotted, too, and has a brass wire that secured whatever went into the slot.
It is a very strange piece.

Just a guess here but reminds me of a old crank hand screw driver bit end broke off. :icon_scratch:
Take Care,

It looks almost like the ferrule at the bottom of a flagpole. Since it came from a CW area, maybe it went on a unit flag to anchor it when it was planted at the campsite?
