Personally, I think this is a purely decorative or fantasy piece... a five star flag never appeared in the course of US history :icon_scratch:
The material looks to be silkscreen printed on cotton, which tells me that it's relatively modern in design... likely from the 1940s or 50s.

"Silkscreen printing first appeared in China during the era of Song Dynasty Art (960-1279), and made its way to Europe in the 18th century.
However, it was not until silk mesh was more available for trade in the 19th century that screen printing began to pick up popularity.
A screen is made of a piece of porous, finely woven fabric (originally silk, but typically made of polyester or since the 1940s) stretched over a frame of aluminum or wood."

I know they used to sell kits that you could buy with all the pieces and sew it together yourself.

I remember researching them because my parents bought a quilt that they thought was quite old but turned out to be one of those, from the 1950's and 60's.

It is a decorative piece. Wall quilt. Mid 1970's when everyone in the US was crazy for anything "bicentennial".
