Hi everyone!

I was out the other day and dug this brass nameplate with a nice patina. I first thought it might be from a stove, furnace, or boiler, but can't find any reference to a product like that. It is 1/8 inch thick and is plain on the back, so what you see is what you get - no patent numbers or dates. Looks pretty fancy to be a custom made piece for one family. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help!

Could be what you said. Also could be a nameplate for outside a house, or from a grave or tomb. Robert Peary claimed to have been the first man to the geographical north pole. Could be off one of his trunks, but like his claim on the pole...it's highly doubtful.

I did a little research and found very little that carried the Peary name that wasn't a reference to Robert Peary, of Arctic exploration fame, or defame. That said, there were a good number of naval vessels that carries the Peary name. As this is a brass plaque, it would be right at home on the flying bridge of such a ship. Here's a link for the Liberty Ship 'Robert Peary': http://www.usmm.org/peary.html

Hope this helps you.
