Any Horseshoe experts out there?

Found these old horseshoes around this old mining camp. Seen thousands of horseshoes, but never anything like these. I know they for correcting some kind of hoof ailment, but never saw one with front to back cleats before. Cross cleats are common , but then one of these is off on an angle. Seen photos of various ones on the net but no explanation as to what they correct. Any ideas or info would be much appreciated. IMG_1218.jpg
 

I am not an expert.

My guess would be mending hoof splits, cracks, chips or other damage.
