Any Help Out There With Dating/ID'ing?

I know this belt plate to be Masonic in origin but can anyone provide any further light on its age or association? Not very visible in the image (nor in person) is the arm and hammer symbol in the middle of the shield. My personal efforts to dig info have not yielded much. TIA!

My first thought is made in late 19th century. It looks like it has a Celtic design, or so it seems to me? Nice find:thumbsup:

Shouldn't have an arm and hammer if masonic, in the center of the square and compass it would have a capitol G which stands for God.

I respectfully disagree.

Many, many thanks for the replies, and thank you especially Mud Hut for the all of the great info. I did notice one difference between mine and all of the other symbols- my arm/hammer face right where the others face left. Maybe mine's counterfeit!:laughing7:

So this symbol was an early representation of xenophobic, anti-immigration sentiment. Maybe I should turn it in to the authorities as opposed to having it confiscated????

Thank you again fellows, this is a great help.

I'm updating this reply with a link provided by Creskol. This symbol got around!
