✅ SOLVED Any guesses what this old box is?

I found this box in a storage unit, looks millitary maybe, has a small slot on top with a mail looking slot on side. I have tried ebay with every kind of description I can think of. Any ideas?

It did look like it had something in it, I tried old ballot box, millitary ballot box, in Google images......nothing

The truth? I found it by accident. After looking at the box. I knew the lid was held open with the latch for some reason. I also thought the vents up top were to let heat out. So, I really thought it was some kind of old film projector. After looking different places for a film projector I ran into that thing. lol
