Hey all. I'm a bit new to this site, and was wondering if anyone had any good spots in northern VA. I've had both my detectors for about a year now, but only been able to use them when we go to the beach up in NJ. I wanted to do some hunting closer to home, anything helps! Thanks in advance!

I'm not in VA nor have I ever lived there so I can't help you with any tips on places to hunt in that area of the country

and I may be wrong here (as I have been in the past!)

but

I wouldn't expect too many replies to this post/question because if you think about it

you're asking a bunch of treasure hunters to point you the X marks the spot on the map!

Not too many guys I know are willing to give out info on their "good" places to hunt!

Maybe a trip to the local library to research your area/history would be a good start - at the very least - it may provide you with some clues and/or ideas on where to do some hunting :-)

Good luck, HH and keep us updated

with Virginny's history I imagine most spots are good

Lonewolfe- You prove a very good point! I'll keep that in mind.
Jeff-gordon- you also have a good point! I could probably go dig anywhere and have success, with permission of course.

On a side note, did do a bit of a dig in my backyard today, but I've got a tiny suburban backyard, so it didn't yield very many results. If I collected rusty nails, however, I would be overjoyed :). Was my first time doing a dig in the dirt and not sand, so I guess it could be considered a successful learning experience.

If anyone cares to see pictures of what I found today, here ya go.

I just moved to Texas from Northern Va if you live by dumfries I know a great spot. Look on maps for where the old fairy used to run next to the Potomac River it's close to a creek bed if you follow the creek from we're it crosses route 1 toward the Potomac eventually you will find your way to a large rock foundation in the middle of nowhere. Beware of the briar bushes happy hunting. The land is public property too just be ready to walk through a good half mile of briers. This spot is not searched out I never could spend too long there due to how hard it is to get there. I found a large cent a horseshoe and a rusted out flint lock darenger out there so it should have some stuff hiding out there.

Check your local laws northern va has lots of civil war history and lots of locals are off limits even down here in sw va whole counties are off limits ex. any park serviced by roanke county parks and rec. are no dig sites. local cities are differant just call thier parks dept. individually. Parks are good places to try without having to travel too far if time is tight. Don

I know what you mean. I often just go out and explore the woods, I've found a total of two old trash pits absolutely loaded with goodies! I'm going to post all those finds after my next trip to one of the two, plus I might get some more over spring break! HH!
