I know that the original battleship was introduced to the Monopoly game in 1937 (it was a piece from another--but unsuccessful-- game and that during WW II, the metal pieces were replaced by wooden ones, then reintroduced as metal a year or two after the war ended. Perhaps there was some variation in the pre-and post-war models.

The 1920's section of Larry White's Cracker Jack Toys attributes this item as a 1.19" battleship (deck to waterline, 0.19") with seven guns along each side, and smoke curling from the stacks. It was also produced in blue and red lacquered finishes. White values it at $19 in near-mint condition.

Thank You

The coins found in the same area date the site from mid teens to mid twenties so I figured it was probably not a Monopoly battleship.

Interesting comment from that Larry White's book. Charles B. Darrow of Germantown, Pennsylvania, didn't even invent the game until 1934, so how could a book reflect information about it in its "1920's section". Something is amiss.
Monopoly wasn't patented until 1935 and the 'battleship' wasn't used (introduced) to Monopoly until 1937.
Don.....

White doesn't list it as a Monopoly piece.

He lists it as a Cracker Jack toy.
