My brother recently bought himself a detector and got permission for some farmland that has'nt been detected before. He has got some fairly good finds for a beginner including a decent Elizabeth I sixpence, possibly roman pommels, fibula parts and so on. He also found this item and we are baffled as to what it might be, so I was wondering if there is anyone on here who might be able to identify it,..thanks

Looks to be vintage jewelry of some sort. Nice find.

First... Welcome...
A little more description of your piece will help.
Pictures of the back and side view.
How big and thick is it, what is it made of and is it broken off of a larger piece??

Roman items in New Zealand? That would re-write history! :laughing7:

Without reference for size, its impossible. Looks like part of a clockwork, or watch, depending on size....

Put a coin, or a pop can in the pic to show size. I don't know if I'm looking at a coin sized object or something that is over a foot in diameter.

Just looking like it from the side it looks like a artsy representation of an animal like a porcupine or some kind of rodent.

Maybe it's an Aboriginal theme?

This might not be what your hoping for in an answer to what it is but not knowing the size and you said was found on a farm that hasn’t been detected before I will guess part of a tractor seat, foot pedal, or foot rest. Just guessing. I’m no expert. Good luck.

Well that would explain the roman finds....
But we still need more info !

More pictures and some sort of measurement.
