Hello Treasure Hunters!

I am new to this site and also very new to metal detecting. I am still very much learning the process, however, in this post I call on your expertise to help me identify this piece. I dug it on my second hunt at my Grandmothers house which was built in the 1940's. I do not think this piece has too much age to it, and is not valuable..but I like it. It is stamped EPNS which, after a Google search, I think stands for Electroplated Nickel Silver. It is also stamped "Made in England". Beyond this, I have not a clue.

Take care and be safe!

Thank-you for the welcome :) Also thank-you for the clue as to what this may be. I would never have thought of a knife rest.

In the last picture it looks like British hallmarks. You should be able to find out when it was made by the date letter. It also looks like it was soldered to another piece of metal.

The OP was correct with the EPNS & these are not hallmarked as its not solid silver.

Not sure what it was, I'm trying to work out what the fixings or form of fixing it used on the base?

Hello Crusader,

Thank-you for your interest. I took a picture of the bottom so we can more clearly see where and how it may have been fixed to another object.

In the top left it looks like there may have been a piece that once protruded out from the corner, but has since broken off. Also inside the two other highlighted areas, it looks as if this is where it may have been soldered or glued to another item. Again, I can only speculate...I am new to all of this.

Thank-you again for your time.

Tough one.

Thanks for the added picture which I think indicates it was soldered to another piece of metal. Still not sure what it is, but the previous Knife Rest theory is a pretty good guess.
