These were dug up with the backhoe...from a drainage ditch. I was told that this ditch was first blasted out with dynamite by the previous owner, I'm taking a guess anywhere from the early late 1890's-1920's.

I know the chain links are a different shape than most I'm use to seeing, but the other object has me baffled. The greenish colored loop is that brass? No clue to what it could be used for.

My first thought was spurs, but it also looks like it could have been some sort of leg irons or shackles. Any reference for size?

lantern handle?

Does it look like the brass piece used to be formed in a complete circle ? If so, it could be a reins holder from a horse drawn wagon.

Neat stuff Judie!

I like the brass piece still attached to the iron, and it looks like one of those loops was on the other side of the iron thinggy too.

No idea, but I like it! :icon_sunny:

Well, I do know it's not a horseshoe :D...Mr. John was a blacksmith here on the property, so I'm assuming it's something he made. I've found many iron relics but nothing looking like this with a brass whatsit attached. The chain links are different, and it does look like it may been attached at one time. The shape...I'm thinking cause I can see the bend/twist that it may had be one long piece at one time. :icon_scratch:

Shackles? For oxen maybe? As Montana Jim pointed out a possible area for the loop thing on the other side.

You just never know the mystery behind some of these relics we find.

 RR

Could be a old cast iron pipe strap..Round clips for tie downs.. Any cast iron or old clay pipe in the area? helps hold the pipe in place..
