Hi everyone, I'm new to relic hunting and just joined this site. My friend and I have been hunting a known union camp on private land in the Shenandoah Valley of VA. We have found many bullet, buttons, carved bullets and misc camp items. This item has me baffled. This object is brass and has steal pin in large end that seems to be broke of. the small end has some threads. Thanks for any help.

What first comes to my mind is the spike tip of civil war era surveyor's transit tripod or a tripod for a field camera??? It just has that old design look to it, but I really don't. I thought I'd just start the thinking process with that idea.
