Hey DG, Can you post some more pics of it showing the back and the ends. Also, I'd like to see one at eye level to see the height. The exact measurements would be helpful too. Very interesting, Breezie

DG, It looks like a Victorian ink pen quill tray. They were used to rest the nib end of of the pen to prevent getting ink on the table or writing surface. Nice find, Breezie

You're welcome  I thought it was a pen tray last night, but wanted to see a few more pics to be sure. You can boil it in water, and when hot/warm, remove it from the water, then bend it back into shape; well, somewhat back into shape. Be sure to go slowly and inch your way along as not to break or crack it.
Again, nice find,
Breezie

Do we have a reference or image, just can't see how this would work as a ink tray :icon_scratch: unless it was embedded into wood :dontknow:

SS, if you Google Victorian ink pen trays, you'll see all different shapes, sizes, and configurations. Some were embedded in wood; others were not. Breezie

I did and none looked like that, and the pattern would be at the bottom surely, were it wouldn't be seen seen, plus it looks to small, and there would have been somewere for the ink cup to sit :icon_scratch:

From what i can tell ,this piece was most likely mounted on a desk. The bottom is pushed up so it would be much deeper if it were in its original condition . .

After further inspection ,i found a small hole crimped in the back bottom .It was made that way and not from damage .
