Hello All. Well I thought that I had something cool because I found it about 8-IN deep very near where I found an 1861 seated dime, then I figured out it is just a rifled shotgun slug. On closer inspection I see a star on the end of it.

Not sure how long rifled slugs have been around. Any ideas on the maker and age is appreciated. Thanks and HH.

You are correct, your find is a "rifled" shotgun slug. That type is from the 20th-Century, and is still being manufactured today, by various ammunition companies. Here's a photo showing several of the variations which are available.

The specific version you found, with a raised 5-point star on its top, has been identified here on TreasureNet previously. The star-marked version is made only by one particular manufacturer, but I can't recall which one. Perhaps somebody else here can remember it.
