I found this clip or buckle quite a while back in a wooded area. The site was part of a horse farm near a house that was used as a hospital during the American Revolution. If you look closely, there is a tab on one side and a slit on the other, as if a piece of cloth or leather would be slipped through. The reverse is identical. At first I thought it looked Victorian, but now I am wondering if it is possibly a bit older. I have never seen a similar one posted. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If not a buckle, and I don't know, it might also be part of a brooch, or a delegate ribbon.  Just thinking out loud.

I'm no expert, but it could be a colonial era strap buckle. Seems a bit small for a shoe buckle. Is it brass?

I am not sure if it is brass. It seems more like bronze or copper, but I am not an expert. It measures about 1..5".

Rococo style was very popular in the mid to late 1700's, then again during the Victorian period.

Anything on the back?

Matt,

The reverse is a mirror image of the front.

Both sides the same? I would say NOT a buckle.

Possibly part of a fancy chandelier? Drawer pull? I don't know...

Just a guess but would say it's the top of a ribbon like this old campaign ribbon. Think someone may have mentioned it above
Don

I think it is a good guess, however the reverse side is identical to the front. My guess is that a campaign ribbon would have a flat back. I also dont see slits for sliding the ribbon. The ribbon is obviously slipped through before being fastened, as in the photo below showing the front and back.
