Umm.. and why do you want Antlers?

Chukers

Some people sell them (check ebay they go for a pretty penny), some people use them for flint knapping, some people make bone handles for things, me I just like them so I toos them on the pile.

It is absolutely amazing how much the interest, and demand for antlers has risen in the last 10 yrs. great video, I am just amazed at how relaxed those bucks are with guys getting that close, and talking and what-not. For anyone who doesn't hunt, a video like that gives such a deceptive concept of what hunting is like-definately isnt anything like that. It's amazing how they really do seem to know when and where they are totally safe compared to being hunted.

So in your area I guess you can shed-hunt anytime huh? I am in Utah, and several years ago, when the interest increased dramatically, the DWR stepped in and actually made a "shed-hunting" season.... As to not disturb animals on their winter range and whatever. So be glad that you still have the freedom to go shed hunt anytime, anywhere like that, as I can say for sure that it may not last forever.

Nice twist to treasure hunting, I love it. Great find.

Chris.

I love antler hunting. I used to search for elk Antlers out west, and managed to find a few good ones at that. The crappy ones we would sell to a guy for 7 bucks a pound. He would then grind them up for asian pills or something like that. That is a great find. Keeeeep at it.

ynp
P.s I really enjoy your videos.

amazing how gentle the bucks are with one another.
great video thanks for sharing

Great vid TF! I luv shed hunting myself, found both halves of a nice 10 pt. shed in my front yard, found half of the same buck's shed the next season.

Brown deer antler brings $6-8/lb, Elk $6-7, and moose sides $8-10. Elk antler sell mostly to the dog chew market, and to the Asian medicinal market. Nice furniture and hanging lamps are also made from antler.

10 years?20 years ago I worked for a guy that sold antler oversea's and there were guys at that time that hunted sheds for a living!!!A very good friend, and metal detecting enthusiast still is in the business, and if anything the market has dropped!I personally have hunted for sheds for over 30 years

Thanks for all the great comments guys, you all ROCK!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I was telling my son the other day that I would love to find some dear antlers. That was a great video. I was wondering why they didn't take off when you were there, but then you did say that you were in a preserve with no hunting. Aren't they beautiful to watch? Also I can see why they would lose their antlers they way they were wrestling around. Nice find!

They lose there antlers every year, after there testosterone levels drop,so do there antlers.Antler is the quickest growing material known

Glad you spotted that shed as I was too busy staring at the other bucks and walked right past it :BangHead:

Now we have to keep checking to see when he drops that other side.

I'm actually collecting them to build a chandelier for those that wonder what people do with them.

The competition in the Chicagoland area is huge. I've run into people from WI, MI, IN and OH in our preserves coming out just to shed hunt here. :(

There are places in Montana you have to actually draw to hunt sheds

Nice find and great video! Hope you find the match to that one!! :icon_thumleft:
