Hi everyone. My dad and his brother found this embedded in a tree around long island new york in the late fourties or early fifties. I was wandering if I could have some help on finding out how old it is and or where it originated IMG_20210620_004927_515.webp. Maybe some identification marks . Any info would be helpful.

Need more pics. It looks like a pipe tomahawk to me. Old and cool! Gary

Nice pipe tomahawk!
Some pipe tomahawks were made in England and exported to North America to be used for trade, gifts during diplomatic agreements(treaty signings), but the majority seem to have been made in America.
whatever you have there looks to be old and cool like Gary said above ..Congrats :icon_thumleft:

First of all welcome to the forum.

It is really hard to determine anything except shape/style with the photo provided as it's out of focus.

Here is a link that really has some great references and knowledge-along with a layman's explanation of what to look for regarding the item posted.

Interesting.

Are there any marks on the relic?

Is there any other history behind this other than late forties or early fifties found stuck in a tree?

When and who reattached the head to the handle?

I cant tell, but this appears to have been cleaned. Has it been cleaned? Is this made of brass?

I'm also curious about the metal?

Looks English.

Don't take offense , But an original stuck in a tree would be looking rough.

It's the find of a lifetime in fantastic condition (both from use and exposure to the elements) , or a reproduction.
The blade straightness (vs drop on lower end) hints of a mid eighteen hundreds pattern. Great Lakes to far West. Though anything could go any where really.

I would certainly agree that's a pipe tomahawk. That must be a new handle - the original wouldn't have lasted this long, and it isn't hollow, allowing the pipe to be used.

I agree with the other posters - clear detailed photos would be quite helpful.

Good luck to all,

The Old Bookaroo

Is the pipe and the blade one piece? Can you get a pic of the bowl. If if was found stuck in a tree it hadn't been there more than two days?
