I found this denture plate on an early site in New Jersey. Also found were war of 1812 buttons and large cents. It appears to be silver with a maker mark. I noticed a similar plate at the Harvard Dental Museum dating circa 1830. After reading about false teeth history I became fascinated. Can any of guys shed light on my False teeth? :laughing7:

Can you just imagine how long that guy had to sit in the dentist chair to get that fitted?

Imagine if these belonged to a butler. Once he lost them he became an "undentured" servant.

They probably had to trust a barber to make their dentures.

LOL you have a point but I believe they likely belonged to a person who self identified as a Rabbit!

I tried to do some research on the name STENNETT (is that correct?) but not sure exactly where to start to gain any traction. Silversmith? Dentist? Surgeon?

I did find a similar set of false teeth reportedly found on the Shiloh battlefield. Research showed it was possible but inconclusive that they were worn during the Civil War. They implied that this style was later in the 19th C and would have only been affordable by a wealthy person. Metallurgy showed the content was mostly coin silver.

BOY! Some guys have all the luck! I've found two dental plates and one that seemed really small. Got that one home cleaned it up and found it wasn't the right side of a lower plate, it was the right half of a childs jaw. If that don't creep you out I don't know what will! You lucked out! You got metal. Nice find!!!

Thank you DCMatt for the insight. I did see the some information about the dentures found at Shiloh battlefield and Waterloo teeth. Coin silver would explain the alloy and wealthy would probably describe the owner. I've seen Civil War period rubber dentures but not silver. STENNETT is the makers mark but couldn't nail down a silversmith. They sounded like a deep coin when I found them on an iron infested site. My digging buddy asked my what I found and said " My two front teeth" It was Hilarious!:laughing7:

If you look at the area between the front teeth between the bite and where they anchored to the molars it shows evidence of considerable impact, represented by the folding. This poor guy either got socked in the chops or suffered a face plant while probably unconscious. You might want to sift and wash the soil around it. Just sayin!

???? "You might want to sift and wash the soil around it." That suggestion should be a given.
