Hello Forum,

I found these items today in a location where I've found items that date back to 1882. Can anyone help me date this religious medal? Secondly, I found what I think might be a lead bail tag. Any help in identifying this too would be great! Thanks for looking.

I searched Google and found...

"Monstra Te Esse Matrem" - This Latin expression is addressed to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and means: "Show yourself to be our Mother." It is taken from the ancient hymn "Ave Maris Stella" (Hail, Star of the Sea). When Jesus was dying on the Cross, He said to His beloved disciple: "Behold your Mother." This ancient Latin prayer expresses our desire to receive Mary as our spiritual Mother too.

Thanks everyone for your input. I noticed that there are different variants of these medals. One is that Mother Mary has a halo not stars, she is standing on a snake, and on the back where the engraving if the child's name, it looks like a scroll with some fancy loops on each side. I wonder how old my version is?

It rang up like a dime. I hope it is silver. These were made from different metals.

Thanks Don! The one vpnavy saw is very close, but his has French writing on the back (1910) and mine is in English.

That's a beauty, and looks to be silver -- test it and let us know! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:
