Hi - this was an estate find - found it on a table with some tools and thought it was an old chisel. However, when I got it home and took a closer look I noticed the marking IXL on blade near the handle. Plugging that in to eBay for a search came up with a whole bunch of old razors and knives under the name Wostenholm. Taking another look I notice one length of the steel edge is thin enough to be a razor that had not been sharpened in a long time and the other side a little thicker. The end looks like someone used it as a chisel at one point. The "blade" and handle are very primitive and all items I've located with the IXL on them do not look anything like this. They all look newer and no where near as simple as this piece is. Complete piece is 8.5" long. Blade is about 3.5" long. Handle fits comfortably in hand. I'm leaning towards a razor but how old could it be? Or am I wrong and it is a tool? Any and all help is appreciated!!!!

Looks like the tool used in trimming horses hooves.

Bullseye Digger!!!! I put in Farrier's tool and a similar one came up! Should have thought of the since my brother used to be a farrier in Arizona - of course since I live in NY it didn't even occur to me. Thanks so much for the quick answer!!!!
