antique gaming horseshoe?

Hi all found a really weird horse shoe today I believe its some kind of old gaming horse shoe I found it on manitou beach in western newyork, its not an open ended horse shoe like we use today to play horse shoes, does anyone know if really old horseshoes used for throwing were closed at the ends? the little tab at one end feels like it was meant for throwing but who knows?, my camera is down right now , and it is about the same size as a modern shoe far as width and length anyone know anything?,tammahawk

those 2 pics are the closest i see to it, mine is much more corroded I found it about 30 ft from lake ontario, anyone know a good recipe for cleaning corroded stuff?, also a recipe for cleaning old coins?
