Going through some old dirty finds over the summer when I came across this. As I looked closer it appears to be a dog marking. I dug it up on a Sir Williams Johnson site. Possibly from old furniture around revolutionary war era?

Brass casters were used on some Georgian furniture produced before during and after the Rev War
check out some designs by Thomas Sheraton and you'll see some like yours

Could also be 19th C.
