Looks more French than Chinese...

I agree, looks French with those fleur de lis. Did you notice that around the edge are all the signs of the zodiac?

The central design, as noted, is composed of fleurs-de-lis. At least some of the symbols in the border appear to be signs of the zodiac, rather than Oriental characters.

Interesting find, does look like it is of French descent! Post a picture of the reverse, should be datable by the type of shank it has. HH, Mike

It does definitely look French. Also, Missouri was very active with French ports coming up from New Orleans prior to the Louisiana Purchase. Great find!
