Hello, all. I dug this beauty today on a site with a home built in 1870. The center piece appears to be glass and the pin is missing. To me, the hinge appears to be the round-type or maybe Edwardian, and the hinge itself is soldered to the cross bar. The clasp looks to be a C-clasp though it appears to have been bent all the way around. Any ideas on age since the style of the hinge and the clasp are from different eras. And what metal was typically used for these pieces? There is a patina. Should I even try to clean it with anything? Thanks!

My guess is made from brass.
And era is Art Nuevo era. IMO.

Thanks for the info. Sure beats digging up rusty nails! Just wondering how you determine it's art nouveau?

The style of Art Nouveau - Taking inspiration from the unruly aspects of the natural world, as compared to Art Deco which was liner/ angular.
