Definitely old...
Old style script numbers... My GUESS is that is Colonial related...

Someone should post on this... there are many here who have extensive knowledge in these sorts.

Looks like a snake eating frog on the back.Try taking an etching with pencil and paper it might reveal the design on the back better.
