Another What Is It? At least that's what I'm saying!!

Found this today.. The one side is worn very bad. What is it??

Rein guide... It's called a terret. It would have been on the horse/mule/draft harness.

They make them still... but, you'll have to judge yours based on location, other finds at depth, history...

I have no idea!

In addition, they come in all shapes... do a google search for "rein terret". Then select "images".

I did a search and saw some similar looking ones... Have found civil war bullets in same field or civil war era bullets. This piece wasn't that deep, but was on a hill if that has anything to do with it....Probably not that old though. thanks again

Hell... it could be that old... you'll hafta decide for yourself... do you have a CW relic? Do you have some crap from 1968?

Were the CW ones you found on your searches electroplated? This one still has a bit in spots. Were the CW ones threaded, or held in place by a different method?

It's your call, but those might be a couple things I'd look at if I was doing the wondering

I couldn't find any civil war ones on the searches. Just ones that looked similar, but didn't say they were from the civil war.

Found this picture of a reins holder in a Middle Tennessee Relics Case. Looks similar to the one I found. Could be another CW relic.
