another unknown

Bought this at a yard sale last summer for $5.00 i a box of books...its all brass except for the stone in the top and its the size of a chicken egg...no identifying marks anywhere...anybody have a clue??

It reminds me of something I saw a few years ago. It was part of a Catholic priest's travelling kit and he stored wafers in it that he later used when saying mass away from a Church.
