Went back to the 1848 Seminary College on wednesday after work and found a modern penny, an unknown item and a religious medallion. The Medallion looks as if it is the Virgin Mary and I cannot read the insciption as it is in an unknown language to me.
Also stopped by a vacant lot on the way home and found a cheap pocket knife and what looks like a cherub (perhaps part of an old lamp).

B,

nice artifacts.

The 1848 area sounds interesting. I would sure keep at it. Is it a large area? I always like to pick a few spots in a area
to hunt and then end the day hunting at a spot at the location that I would not think would hold much. Several times results were excellent finds from areas that I did not think would be good. Things change so much in that
period of time, you never know.

have a good un.................

It is a very large area. I would guess it to be 4 or 5 acres. Have also found a couple of old bottles in the area.

Good Finds. I think that knife is a little nicer than you think. Gerber makes a really solid knife. One of the sharpest brands I have ever used.

Can't really tell but, it looks like that knife says GERBER on the blade. If so, it isen't a cheap knife. It's one of the better knifes of the day and rather spendy! :o

cool stuff--Is that a date
on the bottom of the medal?

Not sure if it is a date or not. With the damage in that area I am unable to read it. Under my large lighted magnifing glass it looks like ??30. Here is a picture of the back.

I really don't know because I for sure am no expert. I am not catholic so I would not know one religious medal from another. On my part it is just guess work. I wonder if anyone here knows what kind of medal it is? That would be interesting to know.

It's a Date, But not the age of the Medal.

It has something to do with Religion. Which I can't Help you with.

B,

you have what is called a Miraculous Medal. It is related to the devotion to the Virgin Mary in the Roman Catholic Church. Like Jeff said, the date is not the date of the medal, but a reference to an event.
