New sites are the best!
Perseverance at those sites will tell the tale, sometimes the better finds show up after a trip or two.
I like the bottle top, something fun to research and gain a little knowledge from!

Personally I like the old coppers, nice job!

Yep, I know that frustration well from the last few years having so many hunts like that. They are fun while you are doing them, and it keeps you hopeful your luck could change any moment, but it doesn't and at the end of the day you just added to you junk or crusty copper pile.... for which each I now have a display for, so not so bad. :) To be honest days like that is why I created them to at least feel I was getting something. All that said, I'm having some good ole Romeo luck this Fall and what I think happened is some crazy transfer happened between our shovels when you were here, it gave me the luck, but it was such a draining process it made me sick.. but now that I'm healthy again I am able to put that shovel to work! :headbang:

Funny how it works...next time out in the same area could produce a rare button, coin or other relic...Still a good hunt just the same!

Looks like a great hunt to me. I like the pipe bowl. It's on my wish list. Sounds like you guys are spoiled. Lol

I thinks some of us get a bit spoiled with some amazing sites and finds. Then you have those hunts with a few average keepers and it's disappointing. But it's just part of the process and is getting you that much closer to your next Banner find. Some people would kill for a day like you just had. It won't be long til you're into the great stuff again brother.

Nice find Buddy, almost got yourself a full bowl too.
If I ever bring up a Sussex mineral water bottle....It's yours.
Congrats.

If we have a new place to dig, and the weather lets us get out this time of year, we should be happy! Nice old stopper Romeo. Next time there may just give up what you missed this time.

I do agree with what you say, however I think if someone in a great old area with incredible potential, is happy with the average keepers, they are less likely to have the drive to get the good stuff. Now if someone was blowing off great finds as ho-hum then maybe that person should be called out on it, but I don't really see anything wrong with being just ok with what a person considers just ok finds.... and btw... I didn't mean you were calling him out in any way. The thing people in not so old areas have to realize is digging a lot of this stuff isn't really that hard as 1800s houses and sites are literally everywhere. It doesn't really take a whole lot of effort to dig a 100 year old coin.... but to dig one 250-350... now that takes some effort, and that's the ones we're looking for.

Lots of targets means lots of chances. And is just a bonus to hunt at this time of year.
Do you know what the copper is, the lowest one in the pic.?

Beautiful copper tokens & LC finds romeo, bet they'll clean up nicely too! :occasion14:
You're right though, "the find of the day is the porcelain bottle topper"!

Sometimes the best finds are the 'eye-ball' finds,
Dave

Nice old large cents ya found. Looks promising for sure!!!

Yep...great to be hunting this time of year! That copper is a NS Thistle Token...not sure on the year.

I think the finds of the day are those coppers as well. Can we see them cleaned up?

I hope Romeo didn't think I was calling him out. I feel exactly the same on most of my outings. I'm always looking for that next monster find. I have dug 6 coppers on s single hunt and been disappointed. If it's not a shoe buckle or good coin I feel that way. If our expectations aren't for the best then what the hell are we going out for. Some of us are just lucky to have a ton of history. And I am super competitive. If I do something I want to be the best at it and this is no different. It's a process and we have to stick to it. Put in the work and you will reap the rewards eventually.

Nope...not at all! I knew what you were saying which is basically what I was saying. Sometimes we do tend to get a little spoiled waiting for the next big find. I've probably dug close to 1000 coppers so it gets harder to get excited about them unless it's something very special. Just like everyone...i"m looking for the next great thing on every hunt and the more great things found the more difficult that becomes.

I think all anyone has to do is look at your post compared to your banner finds and they will get it. The great thing is you know if you keep digging old targets you can only be denied for so long.

I know what you mean too, call it spoiled, or whatever. I got about half the copper you have nearing 500, so getting another copper "X" that you already have 2 dozen of is not too exciting. Unless a thistle token has the 1382 error date, unless a crotal bell is jumbo size, a LC has 1858 date, they are a bit hum drum.

That said I'm a bit excited every time at the sight of a copper in the hole, not knowing what it is yet. Getting something different is always good, and yes it gets tougher ever year too do. I was pretty happy with the barely there W&M I discovered on my last hunt as it was a first. Now I need a Charles II like you got a year or two ago, although I know that will be tough, I don't think many of those have been dug anywhere ?
