Found this on a beach in NC. Approx 5 feet long, has what I think are called trunells with foxtail wedge, square nail holes with one nail still intact and also what appears to be a dowl rod all used. Any thoughts as to what it 20160222_110644.jpg20160222_110650.jpgis or how old it maybe would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you are correct, although many people call those " treenails, " but either term is correct.

Thank you Capt, do you believe it is part of a shipwreck?

Could be, but hard to tell. They were also used in bridge construction, etc., so being found near the water, it may have been from either.
