Another Regiment Button and the other fool's gold.

Went down to the button factory again with my buddy today. He's never found one before, and was disappointed a couple of hours into the hunt digging nail after nail.

I got a nice low tone on the E-trac (12-10), and I let him dig it. I could tell it was probably a button, and sure enough, he dug a small Rifle Brigade button. I let him keep it. He was happier than a pig in poop.

Good karma = a button for me too!

Not long after, I found a beautiful 38th regiment button... and a ring.

Happy hunting!

Congrats on the finds and the good deed. Looks kind of like a 33 to me. :icon_thumleft:

Thanks, guys. I need the best way to clean the crud off of that to find out. I thought it was 33rd, but I'm leaning on 38. Will let you know when I get there. :)

Can you see anything for a backmark? That pattern is close to both the 33rd and 38th... and I'm guessing your button is early 1800s, but the Rev War ones are quite similar.

PS: Looks like 33rd to me. The way the 3 on the right turns in doesn't look like it would be an 8... too far apart.

Take your time, looks like 38, maybe, lol

Nice finds, congrats!

VERY NICE ! great shape.
I vote for 33 as well.

Its rusted in the back IP, but I believe I can get it clean enough around the areas that count. I can already see a couple of letters.

Teach me Obi-Won, how should I clean this lil guy?

Nice button! Amethyst and diamonds in a plated ring, wouldn't be the strangest thing I've ever heard.

It sure looks in good shape, I wouldn't worry about it "falling apart" so at least a dry brush to determine 33 / 38, and another pic when done ?

You don't need to see anymore. It's post Rev War, as I figured. But you're getting closer! :)

Yes, I figured as much. :) The site hasn't changed...

It's a 33.

Nice 33 at that. :icon_thumright:

that is a very nice 33rd button and will certainly add to your growing collection...your in the area for tons of Rev War so don't be surprised that a Rev War pops out of that button hole!

I haven't found one, IP... but come to think of it, a guy I know found an NB regiment one there.

Yes, and the boys I know dig lots of Rev buttons mixed with NB ones. Just think about it... when does a person throw something out? When it's old. So when is a Rev War military uniform old and worn... in the 1800s!
