ANOTHER DIG IN GOOD OLD ASHEVILLE SPOT BEFORE RAIN HIT.FOUND OLD PENDANT WITH SHEILD AND LOOKS LIKE A SHIP ON WATER SAME SPOT WHERE ALL THOSE OTHER CIVIL WAR BUTTONS ARE BEING FOUND.LOOKS LIKE AT ONE TIME HAS STICK PEN ON BACK.VERY UNIQUE PIN,OTHER HAS WHEAT LOOKING ON BOTTOM ON BACK AND LOOKS LIKE IT SAYS GOLD TWO TIMES ON BACK.FRONT IS FLAT PLAIN ,ALSO LOOKS LIKE PENDANT ,PIN WAS ON BACK ALSO IT LOOKS LIKE AT ONE TIME,STARTED RAINING PRETTY GOOD ,SO WE -MY SON WE HEADED BACK ALSO AGAIN LOTS OF UNIQUE METAL .CAN'T WAIT TO GET BACK IN THOSE WOODS AGAIN AND LOCATE MORE HISTORY.BUT NOTHING LIKE MY TESORO..ALSO LOT'S OF THICK HEAVY IRON COOKING POT PIECES.THANKS TO ALL WHO CAN HELP US..THIS IS THE BEST SITE I'VE SURE ENJOY....THANKS AGAIN. REALLY LIKE TO NO ABOUT SHIELD AND VAULE

The plain-front disc which says "gold" (and other words, probably "Rich Gold Color") on the back is known among relic-diggers as a flat-button. The thread-loop on the back of yours is mostly broken off. It was manufactured for use on civilian clothing, although a few military Militia units are known to have used plain-front flatbuttons. The marking saying "gold" on your is written in "indented" lettering, which on a flatbutton dug in America means it was manufactured sometime between approximately 1810 and 1840.

Thanks again i can't wait to see what the sheild pin might be with old ship and ocean very unique sheild ,and vaule,And is that flat button worth any thing ,Sure would like to find out...
