I went out detecting for gold in La Porte Ca. another day of not finding anything. I found plenty of square nails a few shoe tacks and bulltes as well as some small pieces of wire or nails and brass but no gold. Im hoping my luck will change soon. Anybody have strategies to offer for old hydraulic mines? Sould I start high up or down ar the bottem? I just got my new 6" DD coil so hopefully ther is some small gold in my future. I have not had a chance to play with it yet.

Keep going. Don't give up. That area, as well as most of the others, have been hit hard and we keep going back. You will eventually find a spot, out of the way, deep under a bush our in a little ravine that will turn up a bit for you. This has been the worst year for me sinice I started 6 years ago, I think I have 4 or 5 pieces for 2 dwt., while I have cut back on my time in the pits, I have been trying to find some more places to go and that takes a lot of time.
