I believe that Henry Seigel Co. was a department store in Boston...which doesn't explain the little doodad at the bottom of this piece or what this was. I'm thinking maybe a note pad???

A store of first class construction (escalators, elevators, etc.) opened for the Siegal Company in Boston on Sept. 11, 1905. This item may have been a memento promotional item as part of the store's opening.

Siegal also had stores in NYC and Washington D.C. The location of this (Boston) store was (block to block) Harrison, Essex, Washington and Hayward streets.

The thingamajig reminded me somewhat of a ship's capstan.

I believe it's a wagon hub. An old nickname for Boston, current in Henry Siegel's heyday, was "The Hub of the Universe."

Thanks, MD! Must admit I'm not up to speed on contemporary Bostonian culture. :D

Have been to Boston, Arkansas and also spent a lot of time in the Boston Mountains of Arkansas— but nowhere near Massachusetts.
