Had to go to the V.A. today for a doctors appt. and took the ATP along with me because I wanted to hit an old railroad station that was built back in the early 1800's on my way back home. Plus somewhere in this area there was a skirmish between the Confederate Calvary and the Union infanty. (Haven't found it yet.) Anyway, holly cow what a bunch of trash in the ground. I just keep digging through it and it paid off. I found 2 nice things before the rain came and it was well worth it. Found my first Barber quarter 1907 and a B&O lead bail seal. Stamped 1152 on the front and B&O on the back. 26 copper wire things, 5 lead washers and I'm not sure what the last thing is. Here's the pics enjoy! HH!

Wow! Very nice! Bet you were surprised to see that pop out, I know I would be! Congrats! :headbang:

You're coming along real nice. Now if you can get wife to hold umbrella and dig your holes I'll put you way up there. Great find BTW.

You are on fire dude. Awesome Barber. :occasion14: I can take you to the exact spot I found mine last winter.

Old retired RR stations is on my list of places to hit.........and you did great at that one!!! Love the silver and the old car seal.

The wires are track connectors........they are attached to the ends of stick rails to keep a completed circuit showing the location of a train or switching crew on a display board in a tower or a yardmasters station.........they are also used to transmit cab signals to the engineer through the rails to the wheels of the engine to a signal indicator in the cab of the engine...............

man that barber quarter is in great shape!
those have to be one of the nicest designs
for US quarters, congrats!!

I absolutely love Barber coinage, and that one is a beauty. Congrats!!

Sure was! Definitely made my day.

I have to agree. It is a beautiful quarter.

Thanks, I was hoping someone could tell me what those wires were used for.

Heck Tyler I'm still trying to get her to cut the grass so I can hunt more. LOL

Thanks, I was hoping someone could tell me what those wires were used for.

Try to find a local rail historian that can show you the location of the old freight docks.........before trucking became the nations' way of hauling goods, local stores would combine their inbound/outbound shipments into one box car called "LCL" (less than car load) shipping and they would send their employees to the freight yard to off load/load their merchandise.........could be a nice area to search...................

Teaching them to scream and putting them on TV. LOL

The closer you get to the old station house the more trash you hit. It's going to take some time to clean the area up. Those copper wires ring up in the 80's. Thanks for the info.

HEY THERE HILL JACK WHAT A BUNCH OF FINDS FROM THE RAILROAD TRACKS.
