Its hexagon shaped, heavy aluminum, found in a cornfield and has Local Executive Board and the lettering ----(blank) 3.W on the front and under that Chicago. On the back is the number 5,pretty big number 5 I would add. It also has a hole in it like someone or something wore it at one time. Could it be a cow tag of some sort ? I'm a city girl so I dunno.

Hi coilygirl; I believe it to be a hay bale seal used to count either the weight, or number of bales counted ok. It can also be used to count livestock as you suggested. Nice find. PEACE:RONB

What's the diameter? Often when I see a round 'aluminum' piece, my mind goes to the 3 Merry Widows, but I do believe it is some type of agriculture tag.

Neat find :)

Hey Breezie,I would guess the diameter is about 3 inches maybe. Y'all are probably right about it being something for agriculture. Someone on Instgram suggested maybe an old linesman tag for marking telegraph or or telephone wires.

I don't think agriculture as in hay or animals. Animal tags are generally large enough to be able to read the number or what ever is on it from a distance, without having to catch the critter. Don't know about identifying tags for tobacco or a crop like that.
