I found this button yesterday along with what's left of a toasted Liberty Cap and what looks like a George Half Penny. The button is two piece, iron back, brass front and 1.5". It's another button that I've never seen before. Any clues?
This button depicts a Gnome watering mushrooms. A gnome (/noʊm/) is a mythological creature and diminutive spirit in Renaissance magic and alchemy, introduced by Paracelsus in the 16th century and widely adopted by authors including those of modern fantasy literature.

RISE OF GNOMES IN THE 18TH CENTURY

By the 18th century, garden gnomes were commonly used as a status symbol in the gardens of wealthy families.
As time moved forward, the use of gnomes perpetuated thanks to the myths, folklore, and world-wide stories such as German fairy tales. It was in these stories that gnomes were depicted as little creatures with magical powers who helped humans with farming.
The traditional gnome is closely linked to the mythology of the classical elements (Earth, Fire, Water, and Air) and were said to be the nocturnal protectors of the Earth. Legend has it that gnomes live underground, where they guard the nearby plant life (as well as their personal stashes of buried treasure).

Cannonball correctly identified the imagery. Here's an entry from The Big Book of Buttons - nice find!
Outstanding job on the identification. Does that book date the button? Would you be able to identify this Harlequin and Mistress button?
