Another odd brass item from an old site

This came from a site that has produced many early 1800's items including military items.
I have no clue about this..it was totally encrusted in a sandstone like material.
I recovered an early 1800's short sword type weapon that had the same crust on the brass hand guard.











It wasn't nearly this clean..I just went pretty far with cleaning to try to see any markings.

If it was a foot longer I'd say an electric fence ground rod.
