Looking more like iron ore to me. Any iron mines near your location?

By mass iron is the most common element on Earth.

Sorry, I see no characteristics of meteorites. I do see characteristics of a low iron rock. I also see what is commonly referred to as desert varnish. In short, I think you found this item with darkest, slightly shiny side up. Probable in desert conditions.

Grab a few guide books. I always have a few on several subjects with me when I head to the bush. No internet needed.

Once you are familiar with field tests for meteorites, anything that passes or you still have questions about can be presented to a qualified professional for evaluation.

Time for more coffee.

There are plenty of mines around me. None specifically for iron. Tho there is a good amount of iron in the rock around me.

No one can tell you from a photograph. Live near a Community College, University? Ask the Geology Department to take a look at it.:occasion14:

Azcoins..as I would assume the same. There very well might have been many pieces around. Being the desert, where sand moves constantly, it wouldn’t surprise me if pieces were completely buried! I didn’t dig to find out. I just came across a “different” looking rock in the middle of the desert out here in the middle of nowhere in Arizona, checked it out for half a second before stuffing it in my backpack. Oh, and I don’t understand your “teaspoon of sugar” sentence..thank you for your feedback, I appreciate any and all knowledge!!

Not as excited about this one, LW. It's got inclusions, it's got a lot of sharp edges and corners, pits, may even be layered. I can't say no, but not inclined to say it could be. Good luck.
