That sure looks like an old duck or goose call to me. If it is an old call, do your research as they can bring in some nice coin now days.

Thanks duggap. Someone else told me the same thing a while back but I have never been able to find one like it on line. I don't know much about them but I'm guessing it must be missing some parts?

Looks like a post is missing here?

Check these out. I know nothing about such things, but it really does look like it could be a duck call -- with a part missing.

I found this item in a wall of an old 1846 house. Its about 2.5" and brass or bronze. I found it next to what treasurenet identified for me as an old whale oil lamp.

It looks like half a whiskey barrel tap.

JDug, your item looks like a good possibility. I notice some threads on the fat end of my piece. Maybe that was it original use then someone made it into something else? Paleopilot, I did try to blow into it (when nobody was around). The holes look to be angled like a whistle or some sort. it does whistle but requires alot of breath. Not really practical for a whistle.
All good possibilities

I think it has to be a bird call or animal call of some sort. The holes were drilled at planned and opposite angles to each other. There was probably a reed mechanism of some sort that fit in there. It may not be a duck call, but really looks to be some wildlife call. It may even just resonate if you make a sound of some sort into it rather than just blowing into it. It might be sort of like a brass instrument in that way.
