I believe it is silver, but small to have a mark on it.

Look closely for the mark. On silver stud earrings the mark is often on the post and they don’t come much smaller. I have found some jewelry that just is not marked, but tests positive anyway. Here is a picture of the wire back of a gold earring I found the day before yesterday.
