I'd only saved this to be an electrolysis guinea pig, glad I did system was running on low amperage (~250mA, 25Vdc) so it didn't get all the rust off even after going overnight. Not a bad find nonetheless, IMO.
It IS a trunk locking hasp. And it was rusted to the point that even I had no idea what it was; there was only a vaguely discernible shape that marked it as manmade.
Thanks, but I thought the idea of electrolysis was to get ALL the rust off? lol... mine's a little short of done. Although I can't decide whether I really want to bother trying for the rest of it.
Complete removal of rust is desired for rare or valuable iron because it will halt any further deterioration.
more elec would be up to your preference, It's fairly clean and a coat of matte lacquer after complete flush and drying should keep it well preserved, a museum quality treatment is not necessary unless you want that....
